Volunteer and Research Assistantship Opportunities for Students
Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer or research assistant at one of our field stations in Costa Rica or South Africa. Opportunities at each station vary over the year, depending on the stations’ and researchers’ needs and the capability for mentorship/supervision.
All opportunities are managed on an individual basis via the Station Directors. Before you contact a director, we suggest that you take the time to become familiar with the stations and the current projects. General information about each of our three field stations in Costa Rica (La Selva Research Station, Palo Verde Research Station, and Las Cruces Research Station and Wilson Botanical Garden) is available on our website; please take the time to review some of this information before sending your note of inquiry. We will soon post a list of current project leaders who have expressed interest in receiving applications as well as information on OTS’ new field station in South Africa (Skukuza Science Leadership Center).
For further information on internship/volunteer opportunities, send the following via email to the Station Director of the field station of interest:
- A short message detailing your volunteer/internship/research assistant interests, your previous relevant experience, what you expect to accomplish, and the anticipated length of time and dates you would like to spend at the station (a one-week minimum commitment is required)
- Funding needs (note that volunteers, interns, and research assistants are typically expected to cover their own expenses such as travel, room, and board; some projects have available funding but that is more the exception)
- An up-to-date curriculum vitae
For further information on internship/volunteer opportunities, send the following via email to the Station Director of the field station of interest.
