Cada año desaparecen más y más hábitats, de los cuales dependen las aves migratorias durante sus viajes.  La gran mayoría de estos cambios están causados por el uso humano de las tierras y tienen un impacto directo sobre las  poblaciones  de  aves  migratorias,  que  son  especialmente  sensibles  a  cualquier  interferencia  en  las  áreas  que utilizan a lo largo de sus rutas migratorias.

El tema para el 2011 será “Cambios en el  uso de la tierra a vista de pájaro”, con el cual se pretende concienciar del drástico impacto que el uso humano de la tierra tiene sobre las aves migratorias y en los ecosistemas de los que dependen para completar sus rutas. El  segundo fin de semana de mayo de cada año se dedica a esta celebración. Este año, alrededor del mundo habrá actividades del Día Mundial de las Aves Migratorias los días 14 y 15 de mayo. Each year more and more of the sites migratory birds depend on during their journeys disappear.  The majorities of these changes are caused by human use of land and have a direct impact on migratory bird populations, which are particularly sensitive to any interference to the sites they use throughout their migratory cycle.  

This year’s theme for World Migratory Bird Day is “Land use changes from a bird’s-eye view”, which pretends to raise awareness on the dramatic effects human land use has on migratory birds and the ecosystems upon which they depend.  Each year, the second weekend of May is dedicated to this celebration.
